Deploying the Bootable CD-ROM

After the post-First Boot Agent (FBA) run-time image is burned to a CD, it is ready for deployment. You can boot your CD-ROM on any system that supports bootable CDs.

To deploy your bootable CD

  1. Configure the BIOS to boot from the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Insert the CD into your device CD-ROM drive and boot the system.

The system boots from the CD.

  3. Log on to your target system.
  4. Open a command prompt and type the following command to confirm that the RAM-based EWF is running:
    ewfmgr C:

The EWF manager console application component should report the amount of system memory used. This number should increase as your target system is running various applications.

Note   You can safely add or remove devices that can be installed without the system prompting you to reboot. Doing so does not corrupt the El Torito volume. Boot devices, which cause the system to prompt you to reboot when installed, can be removed, but cannot be added to your target system.
You can format the other two partitions on the hard disk and use them for other purposes, but you cannot repartition the disk in any way that might cause the offset of any partition to change. Such a change causes a new boot device identifier to appear in the registry and the El Torito system continually prompts you to reboot.
