CompactPCI Design Considerations

Be aware of the following design considerations for configuring CompactPCI support.

  • If your chassis requires the Generic CompactPCI Chassis component, it is best to create a new component that contains the configuration information and store it in the component database to use again. From the Generic CompactPCI Chassis component in Target Designer, copy the extended properties that have the prefix hs to your new chassis component in Component Designer.
  • You can create your own system slot board component if your software is compatible with the Microsoft cPCI hot swap support module.
  • When defining a custom component, choose the prototype component for your component type, as shown in the following table.
Component type Component tree path Prototype component
System slot board Hardware\Platforms\CompactPCI\System Slot Boards Prototype: CompactPCI System Slot Board
Non-system slot board Hardware\Platforms\CompactPCI\System Slot Boards Prototype: CompactPCI Hot Swappable device
CompactPCI chassis Hardware\Platforms\CompactPCI\Chassis Prototype: CompactPCI Chassis

For more information, refer to the CompactPCI Hot Swap specification (PICMG 2.1).
