Deployment of Remote Applications

When you build a Remoting application on one computer and then deploy your application to another computer, you must make sure that your application can find its dependent assemblies. Otherwise, the application throws a FileNotFoundException. An application can find assemblies that have been placed either in the same folder as the application, or in the global assembly cache (GAC).

The GAC is a computer-wide code cache that is used to store assemblies that need to be shared by several applications on the computer. To install an assembly to the global assembly cache, the assembly must be strong-named.

For more information about strong-naming assemblies, see Creating and Using Strong-Named Assemblies.

For more information about installing assemblies into the GAC, see How to: Install an Assembly into the Global Assembly Cache.
