Error signing file

Authenticode signing for this deployment project failed. There are several reasons this error may have occurred:

  • You may not have necessary permissions for signing.

  • You may be missing system files required for Authenticode signing.

  • You may be referencing a certificate file or private-key file that does not exist.

  • You may have entered an improperly formatted Timestamp server URL.

To correct this error

  1. Select the deployment project in Solution Explorer.

  2. On the Project menu, choose Properties.

  3. Select Certificate file and enter a valid certificate file.

  4. Select Private key file and enter a valid private key file.

  5. Optionally, select Timestamp server URL and enter a properly formatted URL, including the http:// prefix.

    NoteNote

The specified URL is only validated for formatting, not for the existence of the timestamp server. You should verify the URL by pasting it into the Address bar in Internet Explorer.

If the error persists, search for the files Signcode.exe and Javasign.dll.

  • If either file is missing, you will need to reinstall Visual Studio.

  • If both files are present, make sure that their read-only attributes are not set.

If you do not need to use Authenticode signing:

  1. Select the deployment project in Solution Explorer.

  2. On the Project menu, choose Properties.

  3. Clear the Authenticode signature check box.
