The following code example adds a ComboBox control to the start of the document, adds two items to the combo box, and then selects the first item. To use this example, run it from the ThisDocument class in a document-level project.

Private Sub WordAddComboBox()
    Me.Paragraphs(1).Range.InsertParagraphBefore()
    Dim ComboBox1 As Microsoft.Office.Tools.Word.Controls. _
        ComboBox = Me.Controls.AddComboBox(0, 0, 90.75F, _
        15.75F, "ComboBox1")
    ComboBox1.Items.Add("First Item")
    ComboBox1.Items.Add("Second Item")
    ComboBox1.SelectedIndex = 0
End Sub
private void WordAddComboBox()
{
    this.Paragraphs[1].Range.InsertParagraphBefore();
    Microsoft.Office.Tools.Word.Controls.ComboBox
        comboBox1 = this.Controls.AddComboBox( 0, 0,
        90.75F, 15.75F, "comboBox1");
