LinkedList<T>.Contains Method

Determines whether a value is in the LinkedList<T>.

Namespace:  System.Collections.Generic
Assembly:  System (in System.dll)
public bool Contains(
	T value
)

Parameters

value
Type: T

The value to locate in the LinkedList<T>. The value can be null for reference types.

Return Value

Type: System.Boolean
true if value is found in the LinkedList<T>; otherwise, false.

Implements

ICollection<T>.Contains(T)

This method performs a linear search; therefore, this method is an O(n) operation, where n is Count.

The following code example and output demonstrate the Contains method. The example creates an array of strings, then creates and populates a LinkedList<T> by passing the array of strings to the constructor. Finally, the example uses the Contains method to test whether the list contains a particular string.

This code and output are part of a larger example provided for the LinkedList<T> class.

// Create the link list.
string[] words =
    { "the", "fox", "jumped", "over", "the", "dog" };
LinkedList<string> sentence = new LinkedList<string>(words);
Display(sentence, "The linked list values:");
Console.WriteLine("sentence.Contains(\"jumped\") = {0}",
    sentence.Contains("jumped"));
