Tutorial Pages

Dynamics AX 2009

As you learn about how to develop for Enterprise Portal, you may want to look in the tutorial pages that are included in each Enterprise Portal installation. These pages demonstrate the concepts and techniques you will use when you create your own content.

The tutorial pages do not appear in the Enterprise Portal navigation. You access them by viewing them from the page list in the Windows SharePoint Services sites where they are stored. The tutorial pages are stored in the main Enterprise Portal site and in the Sales site.

Enterprise Portal Site

To access the tutorial pages in the main Enterprise Portal site, use the following URL. It displays the list of pages in the site. Be sure to substitute the name of the server on which you are running Enterprise Portal.

http://<server>/sites/DynamicsAx/Enterprise%20Portal/Forms/AllItems.aspx

The following table lists the tutorial pages found in this site.

Page

Description

tutorial_AxWebFrameworkCRUD

Demonstrates the basic database operations performed by User Controls based on the AxGridView component.

tutorial_AxWebFrameworkJoins

Demonstrates the various types of joins for data sets defined in the AOT.

tutorial_Lookup

Demonstrates how to use lookup controls.

tutorial_Toolbar

Demonstrates how to use toolbar controls.

Sales Site

To access the tutorial pages in the Sales site, use the following URL. It displays the list of pages in the site. Be sure to substitute the name of the server on which you are running Enterprise Portal.

http://<server>/sites/DynamicsAx/Sales/Enterprise%20Portal/Forms/AllItems.aspx

The following table lists the tutorial pages found in this site.

Page

Description

tutorial_CustomerCreate

Demonstrates how an AxForm component is used to create a new record.

tutorial_CustomerEdit

Demonstrates how an AxForm component is used to modify an existing record.

tutorial_CustomerInfo

Demonstrates how an AxForm component is used to display an existing record.

tutorial_CustomerList

Demonstrates how to use an AxGridView control to display records in a list. It also shows how to use a toolbar with a grid control.

tutorial_paging

Demonstrates how to control paging for an AxGridView control.

Because the pages do not appear in the Enterprise Portal navigation, you can modify them without affecting other Enterprise Portal users. Some things that you may want to try include the following:

  • Set the various properties for the Web parts.

  • Examine the Web part communication on each page.

  • Add new Web parts to the page.

  • Use Visual Studio to examine the User Controls that are used for the various Web parts. The User Controls for the tutorial pages all begin with the name "tutorial_" so that they are easily identified.

These actions are described later in this documentation.
