Ruler and Grid, HTML Designer, Options Dialog Box

The Ruler and Grid dialog box enables you to change default settings for the HTML designer that affect the appearance of the ruler, grid, and snapping-grid features in Design view.

To access this dialog box

  1. In Visual Web Developer, click Tools, and then click Options.

  2. In the left panel, expand HTML Designer, and click Ruler and Grid.

    Note

    If your environment settings are configured for Web development, by default the elements of this node are not available. To display them, select the Show all settings check box. For more information about environment settings, see How to: Change Select Settings.

    You can find additional CSS options the HTML Designer node, which is visible if the Show all settings check box is selected.

Units

  • Ruler and Grid units
    Specifies the units that are used for the ruler and sizing grid that you can display on a page in Design view.

    Note

    To display the ruler and the grid, in the View menu, click Ruler and Grid, and then click the item to display.

    The default value is pixels. Values are as follows:

    • Pixels

    • Inches

    • Centimeters

    • Points

Display Grid

  • Spacing
    Specifies the width of an individual square of the grid. The default value is 20. The units for the space are determined by the unit that is selected in Ruler and Grid units.

  • Line style
    Specifies the kind of lines that will appear in the grid when a page is in Design view. The default is Dashes. Values are as follows:

    • Dots

    • Solid

    • Dashes

  • Line color
    Specifies the color of the lines that appear in the grid in Design view. The default is Gray. Click Custom for additional color options.

Snapping Grid

  • Spacing
    Specifies the width of an individual square of the snapping grid. The default value is 5. The units for the space are determined by the unit that is selected in Ruler and Grid units.
