Legal Notice

In your contract with Microsoft Advertising, you are required to provide notice and obtain consent from your users regarding the information that Microsoft Advertising collects from your apps. Our app developers have asked us about how they can provide required notice and consent for Microsoft Advertising’s collection and use of data from apps.

Developers may choose many different ways to provide notice and obtain consent, such as pop-up consents or other methods; this is only one example.

NOTE: If you are collecting precise location or other “personal information”, please refer to Windows 8.1 app certification requirements for additional info.

Users must receive notice that the app contains ads that may collect data. Two things are required in order to provide notice and obtain consent for using ads:

  1. Additional License Terms Section – In the Additional License Terms box you must include the following text:

This app is supported by ads from Microsoft Advertising. Learn more about Microsoft’s privacy practices and your choices. Learn more link: https://choice.microsoft.com/AdvertisementChoice/

  2. You must ensure that this link, https://choice.microsoft.com/AdvertisementChoice/, is accessible from your App after installation, such as by including this link in the Settings charm or in your own privacy policy.
