Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)
The Simple Network Management Protocol component supports the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). SNMP is an agent service that provides management systems with information about activities that occur at the Internet Protocol (IP) network layer. The SNMP agent monitors network traffic, and retrieves and updates local management information based on the requests from the SNMP manager. The agent also notifies registered managers with traps when significant events occur.
Note For Windows® XP Embedded Service Pack 2 Feature Pack 2007, the SNMP component has been re-factored to remove the ownership of snmpapi.dll. A new primitive for the DLL file has been created. This change enables the IIS FTP Server and IIS Web Server components to remove their dependency on the SNMP component. Instead it depends on the new Primitive: snmpapi.dll only. With this change, a simple FTP server configuration may reduce its footprint up to about 30%.
There are no services for this component.
No other components interact with this component.
By default, this component accepts SNMP Get, GetNext or GetBulk requests within the public community name. The SNMP snap-in configuration tool can be used to change the configuration of this component.
