Basic Configuration

Microsoft BizTalk Server provides the ability to configure the server using default settings. The default settings for the server are configured using the database server name, username, and password that you enter into the configuration wizard.

noteNote
Basic configuration is recommended for developers setting up a complete installation of BizTalk Server running on a single server.

When you use the basic configuration option, the following occurs:

  • All database names are generated by BizTalk Server.

  • All applicable database logon information is run under the account provided.

  • All BizTalk Server services are generated by BizTalk Server.

  • All BizTalk Server services run under the account provided. The configuration process grants this account the necessary security permissions on the server and objects in SQL Server.

  • All features are configured based on the prerequisite software you have installed on the computer.

  • Groups are created local to the computer using the default group names.

  • The Default Web Site in Internet Information Services (IIS) is used for any feature that requires IIS.

  • The logged on user must be a member of the OLAP Administrators group on the OLAP server.

Considerations for Basic Configuration

When you configure BizTalk Server using basic configuration, consider the following:

  • Configuring BizTalk Server against SQL Server default instances and named instances is supported.

  • The account you are logged on as must be part of the local administrators group and have System Administrator rights on SQL Server.

  • The account you are logged on must be a member of the OLAP Administrators on the OLAP box if configuring.

  • You cannot configure BAM Analysis on a SQL Server named instance using basic configuration. If you are using named instances and want to configure BAM Analysis, you should use the custom configuration manager.
