General Tab (Explorer and Plug-in)
Displays general properties for the selected item, for example, name and type. The entries on the tab will be different, depending on the type of item selected. This tab is available in both Visual SourceSafe Explorer and the SourceSafe plug-ins in Visual Studio.
Dialog Box Access
In Visual SourceSafe Explorer, on the File menu, click Properties, then click General.
In Visual Studio, on the File menu, click Source Control. Select SourceSafe Properties, then click General.
UI Element List (Files)
- Auto-detect encoding of local file

Specifies if file type is to be automatically detected.
- Comment

Displays a comment for the current version of the file. You can change the comment, and it can contain up to 4096 characters.
- Latest

Specifies the version number and creation date and time for the latest item version.
- Name

Specifies the name and path of an item.
- Report

Shows a <your report title> dialog box that allows you to send file properties to a printer, a file, or the Clipboard.
- Size

Specifies file size and number of lines in a file.
- Store only latest version

Specifies whether the database stores all versions of the file, or only the latest version. Storing only the latest version saves disk space.
- Type

Specifies the file encoding assigned when you added the file to the database. Possible options are:
Option Description Binary
Specifies a binary file.
ANSI (MBCS)
Specifies ANSI encoding for text.
Unicode (UTF-8)
Specifies Unicode (UTF-8) encoding for text.
Unicode
Specifies Unicode encoding for text.
Unicode (Big Endian)
Specifies Unicode (Big Endian) encoding for text.
UI Element List (Projects)
- Comment
