In Visual SourceSafe Explorer, on the File menu, click Properties, then click General.

In Visual Studio, on the File menu, click Source Control. Select SourceSafe Properties, then click General.

Auto-detect encoding of local file

Specifies if file type is to be automatically detected.

Store only latest version

Specifies whether the database stores all versions of the file, or only the latest version. Storing only the latest version saves disk space.

Type

Specifies the file encoding assigned when you added the file to the database. Possible options are:

Binary	Specifies a binary file.
ANSI (MBCS)	Specifies ANSI encoding for text.
Unicode (UTF-8)	Specifies Unicode (UTF-8) encoding for text.
Unicode	Specifies Unicode encoding for text.
Unicode (Big Endian)	Specifies Unicode (Big Endian) encoding for text.
