The Microsoft JDBC Driver 4.0 for SQL Server provides access to SQL Server 2012 through SQL Server 2005 and SQL Azure from any Java application, application server, or Java-enabled applet. This Type 4 JDBC 4.0 specification compliant driver provides database connectivity through the standard JDBC application programming interfaces (APIs) available in Java Platform, Enterprise Edition 5 and 6. This version of the JDBC Driver provides support for features introduced in SQL Server 2012, including AlwaysOn, Correlated Tracing via Xevents, and UTF-16 support. Also, this release adds Type 4 Kerberos support on Windows and non-Windows platforms.

MSXML4.0 SP3 is a complete replacement of MSXML4.0, MSXML4.0 SP1 and MSXML4.0 SP2 and contains a number of bug fixes to enhance security and reliability. Approximately nine years ago, MSXML4.0 was released to the web. MSXML4.0 was superseded by MSXML6.0 six+ years ago and is only intended to support legacy applications. After MSXML4.0 SP3, there are no future service packs planned. Also, please note that SP2 support will end in November 2009. MSXML4.0 customers are recommended to upgrade to MSXML6.
