Indicates whether the current user is a member of the specified SQL Server database role.

Syntax Conventions (Azure SQL Database)

IS_MEMBER ('role')

role
Is the name of the SQL Server role that is being checked. The role is the sysname and can include the database-fixed roles or user-defined roles, but not server roles.

This syntax diagram demonstrates the supported arguments in Microsoft Microsoft Azure SQL Database.

Microsoft Azure SQL Database does not support the group argument when using the IS_MEMBER statement. If a Microsoft Windows group is specified, this statement returns NULL.

Return Value Description

0

Current user is not a member of the specified role.

1

Current user is a member of the specified role.

Null

The specified role is not valid.

For more information about the arguments and the IS_MEMBER statement, see IS_MEMBER in SQL Server Books Online.
