StringComparer.Equals Method (String, String)

Microsoft Silverlight will reach end of support after October 2021. Learn more.

When overridden in a derived class, indicates whether two strings are equal.

Namespace:  System
Assembly:  mscorlib (in mscorlib.dll)

Syntax

'Declaration
Public MustOverride Function Equals ( _
    x As String, _
    y As String _
) As Boolean
public abstract bool Equals(
    string x,
    string y
)

Parameters

Return Value

Type: System.Boolean
true if x and y refer to the same object, or x and y are equal; otherwise, false.

Implements

IEqualityComparer<T>.Equals(T, T)

Remarks

The Equals method is more efficient than the Equals method because the x and y parameters do not have to be unboxed to perform the comparison.
